Job Descriptions:
Set up/ Tear down: Loading/ unloading stadium jump standards/ poles onto a flatbed trailer; settting them up in the cross country field under the direction of the course designer. Putting them back into the shed at the end of the day. No experience needed, just some moderate physical strength.
Secretary: Takes entry forms/ payments; make certain forms are filled out properly and signed; hands out pinney numbers; checks pinney numbers back in. No experience needed, just attention to detail.
Timer: Sit under a tent, run a stopwatch and record times for riders. Ability to pay attention, accurate reading of watch and recording of times on a log sheet.
Starter: Start the riders on course, back up timer, recording riders numbers on a log sheet. Cheerful demeanor and reassuring manner are very helpful as some riders are ummm, terrified.
Jump Crew: Putting jump rails back up when horses knock them down, helping adjust the heights between divisions under the direction of the course designer. Needs some moderate physical strength.
Warm up Area Steward: Keeps watch over the warm up area, putting the rails back up on the warm up fences if they get knocked down, adjusting the height when the division changes, making sure that only riders who are entered (ie: wearing a number pinney) are using the warm up jumps.
