Denise Green Injury
Saturday, August 7th, at the Event Derby being held at Sunset Farm Equestrian Center, a rider was injured in the warm-up for the dressage test.
Denise C. Green, age 54, of Snohomish (a very experienced rider) was riding her young TB/ Percheron cross gelding in the warm-up when he slipped and fell with her, causing her to hit her head and knock her unconscious (Denise was wearing an equestrian helmet with the chin harness fastened). The paramedics responded very quickly and she was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Bellingham. She remained unconscious until about 5:30pm Sunday afternoon, when she started to respond again and begin the "waking up process".
Her husband Len Green told me that the tests that have been run show that she has no internal injuries or broken bones, and best of all there does not appear to be any bruising or swelling of the brain. Her doctors believe she should be just fine, once she completely "wakes up". The "waking up" process will take some time, and the doctors can't say just how long it will take. Denise will remain hospitalized for now...
An account is in the process of being created to accept donations to help Denise and her family with medical expenses. As soon as the details are known, we wil post that information on this website.

As of Thursday, August 12th, the doctors are very pleased with Denise's progress. I saw her on Monday evening and she is clearly aware of what's going on around her, but is still unable to open her eyes and is still on a ventilator as a precaution. Her husband Len told me that yesterday (the 11th) she had an EEG and it showed normal brain function. She is stable enough that they were able to move her to Providence Hospital in Everett, which is about 20 minutes from the Green's home in Snohomish.
The family asks that anyone who would like to visit Denise, to please call her daughter Katterin first, at 425.273.0448 as the CCU would like to limit non-family visitors to two at a time.
Arrangements are still being made by a family friend to set up a medical expense account for Denise, but I don't have the details yet. Check the Area VII website at www.areavii.org for more information. We will also post it on our website, www.friendsofsunsetfarm.org as soon as we have details. Please keep praying for Denise's full recovery and for peace and comfort for her family. I can't imagine how hard this must be on them.
